It's now well into JBQ season. We've had 2 league meets & are gearing up for 2 more league meets, another tournament & our state competition. But this weekend we were off to a prestigious tournament in Bowling Green KY. There were teams from KY, NC. IN, OH & VA. The tournament quizzed both Friday & Saturday so it was a long event with many difficult matches. I'm proud to say that all of the kids did well in both divisions.
First in the B League (k-3rd) Bracket the girls team went 8 - 4 with really some tough matches. One church was just phenomenal. They beat us 3 times but the girls grew with each match & came close in the 3rd match against this team with a score of 90 - 125. That was recovered from 200 point deficit losses in the other 2 against this team. Our only other loss was our first round of the tournament & we lost but a regrettable 5 points. Over all the team came in 2nd place. I'm so proud of how hard all 4 of the kids on the team worked in preparation for this event. Jeannah received a trophy for individual scoring. She ranked 3rd in this division for points earned. Yeah Jeannah!. Trophies went to the top 5 quizzers for individual points, Ryleigh was 6th. That was sad but we're still very proud of her effort.
The other big news of the weekend was in the masters division. Our team from Destiny was made up of six excellent quizzers; as a team they all worked hard to encourage each other & push past their defeats. Their record for the weekend was 11 wins and 4 losses. That was a tough record against 5 state championship teams KY, OH, VA, NC & IN. These 5 teams had all gone to National competition last June. So this was our hardest quizzing event EVER. Individually all 3 of the boys were able to quiz & earn points to advance the team. Caleb earned some quiz outs (highest score available in a round with 6 correct answers). Yeah Caleb! Blake our team captain was the #1 individual points champion of the weekend. But here it is.......the big news announced is that the team worked all weekend & in the end pulled off the biggest upset never dreamed of by earning the Grand Champion trophy of the Corvette Invitational tournament. Yeah Destiny Life Guards! The trophy was big & so Sean loved that. Joey found the girl of his dreams, thankfully she's 2 state away; but she was really cute. Caleb was just a focused powerhouse & did a lot of growing up this weekend maturing his quizzing abilities. Good job boys!
Next weekend the boys have local league competition in Cincinnati. This will be a cake walk after this weekend. At this point they hold 1st place in the league after October & November meets. Caleb & Sean are both working toward individual points awards in the league. If you'd like to see the kids in action I will include upcoming JBQ event dates. Let me know if you want details. An entourage for February's meet in Huber Heights would be fun. This will be end of season awards following competition for the day also. Please keep the kids study in your prayers & especially safety as we travel for these events.
